At New Heights Massage Therapy, we understand the complexities and challenges associated with recovering from a concussion. Our specialized concussion recovery program is designed to support individuals on their journey to full recovery, providing a comprehensive and personalized approach tailored to each client's unique needs. Osteopathy is one of the most effective treatments for concussions or traumatic brain injury. Our unique and effective treatment plans successfully reduce traumatic brain injury symptoms, allowing a person to restore their functions and return to normal activities.

What is a Concussion?

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body, which can lead to a range of symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, confusion, and fatigue.

While most concussions are mild, the recovery process can be

complex and requires careful management.

Three Healing Techniques:

Cognitive Rest: Cognitive rest is staying away from activities that

require focus and concentration. During mental rest, it’s best to

avoid screens like the TV, phone, iPad, and other technology. This

allows your brain to rest fully and aid in recovery.

Physical Rest:The number one thing you should do after a

concussion is to avoid physical activity until your symptoms have

fully subsided or you’ve been cleared by a professional. Physical

exertion puts you more at risk for another injury. It can worsen your

symptoms by causing strain to the area.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment:  Osteopathic manipulative therapy treats a wide range of conditions that affect each system in the body, including the musculoskeletal system, digestive (GI) system, nervous system, and immune system. By establishing balance in muscles and bones, OMT restores your body’s functions and allows it to work better.

OMT has been shown to reduce symptoms related to concussion, including headache, fatigue, dizziness, and balance issues. In addition, it can help advance recovery from concussions and sprains, fractures, contusions, and more related injuries.

Finding Concussion Recovery Post-Trauma

Navigating concussion recovery post-trauma involves understanding the unique nature of each individual's healing process. It's crucial to seek early diagnosis and intervention from healthcare professionals to guide the recovery journey effectively. Rest and gradual reintegration of physical and cognitive activities are foundational steps, tailored to avoid exacerbating symptoms. After several days, if the symptoms of a brain injury have not subsided, then manual therapy is recommended. Seeking out concussion recovery therapy early on can prevent long-term issues and help you experience a quicker return to normalcy.

What to Expect During a Session

As your treatment begins, your therapist will assess your condition by conducting a comprehensive evaluation. They will analyze your medical history during this initial appointment and perform a physical examination. Your therapist will design a customized exercise program that meets your unique needs.

Your osteopathic therapist will likely use effective strategies such as manual, hands-on therapy, targeted massage, and effective stretches to ease symptoms and improve your range of motion. During recovery, you may also practice eye motion training and simple exercises that will help stabilize your limbs and core for better balance.

New Heights utilizes The Concussion Recovery Protocol ™, a multimodal system that involves advanced techniques designed to target all areas of the body that were affected by head trauma. This safe and effective system has decreased symptoms, including persistent pain. Because of our unique healing strategies and multimodal system, you may notice symptom relief after just a few sessions at New Heights.
