What inspired you to become a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?
I’ve had many positive experiences with massage, for injuries, maintenance, and general relaxation. I was seeking an opportunity to work more directly with people and make a positive impact in their lives, and when I came across the RMT program, it was a no-brainer for me.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I’ve always considered myself a helper, and I thrive when being of service to others. But I also enjoy the problem-solving involved, exploring what works for each patient and achieving their goals in a pragmatic way.
How do you approach understanding and addressing a patient's needs?
I offer a patient-centered approach, allowing patients to dictate the goals and nature of their treatment. Most of my communication involves just listening and asking questions, but I am happy to offer education and home care tips to further address patient needs when applicable.
February is Heart Health Month. What do you do to promote your own heart health?
Having family members with cardiac problems, this is an important month for me. I’m an advocate for simple cardiovascular exercises to maintain or improve heart health, and I also practice mindfulness and breathing techniques to limit stress.
Is there anything else you would like to add or say to promote yourself?
I’m interested in the functional habits that contribute to people’s pain. There are many professions and hobbies that are taxing on the body just by the nature of it, whether it involves being sedentary, moving, or standing too long. I am happy to offer suggestions or education, but my goal is to support people in living their lives the way they see fit.
