At New Heights Massage Therapy, we are proud to offer Manual Osteopathic Treatment, a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on the interrelationship between the structure and function of the body. Our skilled osteopath is dedicated to help you achieve optimal health and well-being through personalized care.

What is Manual Osteopathic Treatment?

Manual Osteopathic Treatment is a hands-on therapy that emphasizes the body's natural ability to heal itself. Osteopathic practitioners are trained under the principle that the body is a whole unit and is healthy when all parts are healthy and expressed correctly.  It involves a thorough assessment and the use of gentle, non-invasive techniques to address structural imbalances, improve function, and alleviate pain.

Key Principles of Osteopathy

  • Holistic Approach: Osteopathy considers the whole body

rather than just focusing on specific symptoms, aiming to

restore overall balance and harmony.

  • Structure and Function: The treatment is based on the

principle that the body's structure and function are

interconnected, and improving one can enhance the other.

  • Self-Healing: Osteopathy supports the body's innate ability to

heal by promoting proper alignment and function.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy includes a variety of techniques which include (but not limited to):

  1. Cranial osteopathy – addresses the vitality and mobility of the dural membranes and cerebrospinal fluid which nourish and protect the brain and spinal cord.

  2. Myofascial and connective tissue therapy – treats restrictions of the muscles, fascia and connective tissues.

  3. Osteo-articular corrections (joint mobilizations) – gentle manipulation of joints which relieve restriction and restore proper motion. In Canada, Osteopathic Manual Therapists are not allowed to perform high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) manipulations.

  4. Visceral manipulation – gentle in application with both direct and indirect techniques to the organs and viscera and their ligamentous/ fascial attachments to relieve pain and improve function.

The philosophy of Osteopathy is that Structure and function are interrelated, so if a musculoskeletal structure is out of alignment, it causes functional limitations.

Manual Osteopathic Treatment can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including:
